Our mission is to provide quality care and support to those who are unwell, elderly, or living with a disability or loneliness in the local community and thereabouts. We offer day care and transport services and in doing so also provide essential respite for carers. Our aim is to work collaboratively with other local community groups and services, including our local community medical practice, to enable people to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible in their own homes. We work to uphold the dignity of our service users and to improve wellbeing for them and their carers.
We run a number of support services and social gatherings in the local community. Our website provides an overview of the services and events we offer in the local community, as well as giving details of volunteering and fundraising opportunities.
For those in need of transport, the Clyst Caring Friends car service can cover journeys for some of the service that we provide. We also help people with mobility problems or those who have trouble using public transport, by taking them to their local medical appointments.
Managed by experienced staff, our purpose-built day Centre in Broadclyst runs three sessions a week. Our weekly drop-in coffee mornings provide an opportunity for those who are lonely or isolated to meet on a regular basis for a social gathering.
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1986, Clyst Caring Friends began as a transport service when Dr Walker who, at that time, was working at the Pinhoe surgery realised there was a need locally to help patients get to and from their surgery appointments. With the help of local patients, Pearl Isaacs and Pauline Mortimore Clyst Caring Friends was born.
Many years have passed since then and Clyst Caring Friends also now provide several other services within the local community.
